I read The Death Cure and The kill Order by James Dashner.
Throughout the series of The Maze Runner, Thomas becomes a trusted leader to the gladers. Since newt wasn’t immune to the flare, Thomas took his place as the leader. In the maze, everyone followed Newt’s directions, before he died he told Thomas that he trusted him the most to make sure that all their friends would make it to the safe haven. When Thomas, Minoh, Newt, Brenda, and Jorge are forced with the decision of how to beat WICKED, Thomas steps up and figures out a plan of how defeat them. Thomas risks his own life and faces WICKED himself for the sake of his friends. In The Maze Runner series it shows Thomas’ progression of how he became a leader to his friends. In The Kill Order there isn’t much explanation of how Mark changed throughout his experiences. Over the course of The Maze Runner Thomas starts out with the lowest job and by The Death Cure he’s getting his friends to safety. In Mark’s dreams and flashbacks it gave few explanation of how he went from a timid teenager to a strong fighter.
The theme for The Death Cure is good versus evil. When Thomas, Minoh, and Newt escape WICKED, which is a government controlled, human testing group, it’s their main goal to beat them and make sure they don’t go through with their plans. While they stay in Denver WICKED is always watching the boys and giving them different trials and tests, Thomas just wants to get away from their horrible handling. The gladers and group B comes up with a complex plan to defeat WICKED. Thomas has to sacrifice his own life, to people he doesn’t trust so that him and his friends can finally get away from WICKED’s cruel treatment. The Death Cure’s theme of good vs. evil shows how the gladers have to fight against WICKED. The Kill Order is how Mark and his friends have to survive in their world. The gladers main goal is to get away from WICKED, The Kill Order focuses on how the world is changing, their fight not to catch the flare, and their struggle to stay alive.
In The Death Cure there was much better character development and The Kill Order there was a better theme. The Death Cure shows how Thomas changed and how he was willing to do anything for his friends. The Kill Order portrays the theme of survival better than The Death Cure portrayed good vs. evil. Overall both books did a good job with the characters and theme.

I read the books The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trails byJames Dasner. The books are a part of a triology, with a main character of a boy named Thomas.
Thomas changes his opinion to be more understanding about what WICKED is making them go through with the trails. Thomas was confused and mad at first from what was happening in the Glade, then he learns about it and wants to become a runner and help get the Gladers out of the situation. At first he was mad, and then he changed his actions and decided to help figure out a solution. Thomas later thought, that since Gladers had't been able to find the end to the maze in two years they wouldn't ever, then he found the solution. Thomas was discouraged, then he understood that they had to get out some how and found the way out. In The Scorch Trails, Thomas immediately tried to come up with a way to escape the facility. He tried right away, because he then understood the things WICKED would put them up against.
One of the themes in this series is good vs. evil. Thomas didn't know who to trust when he first entered the Glade. He didn't kno wgood vs. evil. At the end of The Maze Runner, the Gladers didn't know if they should trust WICKED or the rescuers. The Gladers didn't know which authority was good, and which was evil. In The Scorch Trails, the Gladers sometimes couldn't determine which cranks were good or gone. They had issues determining good cranks from evil and crazy, gone cranks.
I liked The Scorch Trails beter. I found it harder to determine the good vs evil and who to trust in each moment. At the end of the book Teresa tells Thomas once again that WICKED is good, but Thomas doesn't think so. WICKED put them through each trails and manipulated them, so in Thomas' mind WICKED id bad. Eventhough I liked this book beter, The Maze Runner shows great character development.

I read The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. These books are part of a series and the main character is Thomas.
Thomas has changed. At first, he afraid and lonely, but over time he becomes very brave and leads the Gladers to safety. When Thomas comes to Glade, he cried for the first few nights, but soon he was willing to be stung by a Griever to regain his memory, for the safety of others. When Thomas was crying it shows how at first he was lonely and afraid, and his willingness to be stung by a Griever shows bravery. When Thomas came to Glade he asked many questions because he was unsure about his life there, and by the end he and Teresa save the Gladers. The questions Thomas ask show signs of weakness and unstableness, nut saving lives shows signs of strength. In the first book Thomas becomes brave, but in the second book Thomas becomes braver because his challenges are bigger. Thomas continues his bravery because in book two, the Gladers must survive the Flare and the only way to survive is to be strong.
One of the themes in this book is civilization vs. savagery. Civilization vs. savagery, meaning, being civil, against, being savage. When Ben went through the Changing, he becomes savage and tries to kill Thomas. Ben represents savagery and Thomas represent civilization. When Gally is crazy, he tries to kill Thomas, but instead he kills Chuck. Gally represents savagery and Thomas and Chuck represent civilization. Both books have this theme. In book two, savagery continues the battle against civilization. In book 2, the Cranks are all savage and the Gladers are all civil.
I probably likes The Maze Runner (book 1) better. I liked this book more because it had a good pace. In book 2, The Scorch Trials, events occur so quickly that it is hard to keep up. Book to is harder to follow. Also, in book 1, you can see Thomas's change and savagery vs. civilization much more clearly. In book 1, it is fun to learn about all the characters and find out new things, but in book 2, you already know all of the information, given to you in book 1.
